Started in Mint Hill, for Mint Hill kids.
Mint Hill Robotics started at Matthews Alive, where Ozzie watched a robotics team run their robot and wanted in. That team told us to start one for Mint Hill, so we did. The competition team is half of it; the class is the other half, a chance for any kid in the area to learn this. We build on LEGO® Education kits because of the Computer Science & AI curriculum and because we like where LEGO Education is taking LEGO League.

Adam Hunter
CTO with 20 years in software. Adam leads teams of software engineers and IT staff at a government contractor. He started Mint Hill Robotics for his son Ozzie, and so kids around Mint Hill have one more place to get hands-on STEAM learning.

Jenna Hunter
A Spotlight Academy teacher for four years, with a BFA in wig and makeup artistry from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Jenna runs the room, keeps four groups moving at once, and directs the week-eight show where the robots take the stage. She brings twelve years of theater experience, across dozens of productions, to that show.
Hands on, in small groups, with a show at the end.

Hands on, minimal screens
Most of every class is building and testing on the floor. The laptop comes out to write the code, then goes away again.

Everyone builds, everyone codes
Groups of about four, mixed grades, and roles that rotate so nobody only watches.

A show every session
Week eight is a live demonstration for family and friends. Having an audience changes how kids finish.

Classes meet at Spotlight Academy, 8109 Fairview Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Spotlight hosts the class and handles enrollment, payment, and the studio calendar, which is why the Enroll button on this site takes you to their site. We use LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI kits, which we own and bring to every class.
